Believe

"For it is said that humans are never satisfied, that you give them one thing and they want something more. And this is said in disparagement, whereas it is one of the the greatest talents the species has and one that has made it superior to animals that are satisfied with what they have."
                                                                                                   - John Steinbeck, The Pearl

"To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour."
- William Blake, Auguries of Innocence

"In the realist it is not faith that is born of miracles, but miracles of faith. Once the realist believes, his realism inexorably compels him to admit miracles too. The Apostle Thomas declared that he would not believe until he saw, and when he saw, said: 'My Lord and my God.' Was it miracle that had made him believe? The likeliest explanation is that it was not, and that he came to believe for the sole reason that he wanted to believe and, perhaps, in the inmost corners of his being already fully believed, even when he said: 'Except I shall see... I will not believe.' "  - Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

"What is hell? I maintain that it is the suffering of being unable to love." - Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

"He explained to me with great insistence that every question possesed a power that did not lie in the answer." - Elie Wiesel, Night

"Man comes closer to God through the questions he asks Him." - Elie Wiesel, Night

"Mama's love had always been the kind that acted itself out with soup pot and sewing basket. But now that these things were taken away, the love seemed as whole as before. She sat in her chair at the window and loved us. She loved the people she saw in the street -  and beyond: her love took in the city, the land of Holland, the world. And so I learned that love is larger than the walls which shut it in." - Corrie Ten Boom, The Hiding Place

"Do you know what hurts so very much? It's love. Love is the strongest force in the world, and when it is blocked that means pain. There are two things we can do when this happens. We can kill that love so that it stops hurting. But then of course part of us dies, too. Or we can ask God to open another route for that love to travel." - Corrie Ten Boom, The Hiding Place

"If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." - Matthew 17:20, The Bible

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." - 1Corinthians 13:4-7, The Bible
